This study employs a corpus-based approach in conjunction with the theoretical framework of Cultural Linguistics to examine the structural, semantic, and pragmatic functions of oaths in Quranic discourse. The data were extracted and analyzed using AntConc (version 4.3.4), based on a parallel alignment of the Arabic text of the Qur’an and its Persian translation by Elahi Ghomshei. The corpus analysis indicates that Quranic oaths appear in both explicit and implicit forms and are structured through references to sacred entities, natural phenomena, specific temporal markers, and cosmological concepts. The semantic analysis shows that Quranic oaths, beyond affirming the truth value of propositions, play a significant role in reinforcing the divine dimension of meaning and highlighting ethical and eschatological themes. Pragmatic examination reveals four principal functions of oaths in the Qur’an: denying accusations and engaging in self-defense, asserting truth, creating commitment for an intended action, and issuing warnings or threats. These functions demonstrate that oaths in Quranic discourse are not merely emphatic devices but operate as meaning-constructive speech acts that activate a network of religious beliefs, moral responsibility, and spiritual orientation within the communicative event. The novelty of this research lies in integrating corpus-based methods with cultural, pragmatic analysis, a combined approach that enables a multi-layered and precise account of oath-related phenomena in the Qur’an and opens new avenues for comparative studies across religious texts and contemporary discourse.
