This term is often applied to a variety of other phonological processes which indicate weakening. This study examines the role and the type of phonological strength in the emergence of lenition processes in the Persian language in its evolution from the Middle Persian to the modern Persian based on Foley’s historical perspective. To do this, 120 Middle Persian words from different Pahlavi dictionaries such as the small dictionary of the Mackenzie Pahlavi (1391), the Pahlavi grammar of Nyberg (1390) and the Pahlavi language dictionary of Mansouri (1394 and 1396) were collected, extracted and analyzed. One of the research findings is that the phonological processes of elision at the end of the word and fricativization at the beginning of the word, between two vowels and the coda of the syllable (before the continuant consonants of the onset of the next syllable), have been applied to plosive consonants. Another achievement is that the plosive lenition has been accompanied by two successive processes of "increasing of the sonority" and "opening of the articulatory stricture". تضعیف، فرایندی واجی ا‌ست که در آن یک واحد واجی یا ضعیف‌تر تولید می‌شود یا رساتر می‌گردد. این اصطلاح اغلب به فرایندهای گوناگون دیگری بسط ‌داده می‌شود که ضعیف‌شدن را نشان می‌دهند. این ﭘﮊوهش به بررسی نقش و نوع قدرت واجی در بروز فرایندهای «تضعیف» در زبان فارسی از تحول از فارسی میانه به نو بر مبنای دیدگاه تاریخی فولی می‌پردازد. به منظور انجام ﭘﮊوهش، حدود ۱۲۰ واﮊه از زبان فارسی میانه از فرهنگ‌های گوناگون زبان پهلوی استخراج و بررسی شده‌اند. از یافته‌های پژوهش این است که فرایندهای واجی حذف در جایگاه پایان واژه و سایشی‌شدگی، در جایگاه‌های آغاز واژه، بین دو واکه و پایان هجا (پیش از همخوان‌های پیوستۀ آغازۀ هجای بعد)، بر همخوان‌های انسدادی اعمال شده‌اند. دیگر دستاورد این است که تضعیف انسدادی با دو فرایند متوالی «افزایش رسایی» و «بازشدن بست تولیدی» همراه بوده است. https://jlil.shirazu.ac.ir/article_6227_a550b7b34244747162a57c8ac1274484.pdf
